기차간에서 있은 한 교수님과 농부의 지능 게임승부

A professor finds himself sitting next to a farmer on a train. Bored, the professor decides to propose a game to pass the time.
“I’ll ask you a question,” the professor says. “If you can’t answer, you give me $5. Then, you ask me a question. If I can’t answer, I’ll give you $500. What do you say?”
The farmer nods in agreement.
The professor starts, “What is the distance between the Earth and the Moon?”
The farmer silently pulls out $5 and hands it to the professor. Now it’s the farmer’s turn.
He asks, “What animal has three legs when climbing a mountain and four legs when coming down?”
The professor is stumped. He racks his brain, searches for logical explanations, and even consults his notebook, but he can’t find an answer.
Frustrated, he hands over $500 to the farmer.
The farmer takes the money with a smile and leans back to take a nap. Curious and unwilling to let it go, the professor shakes the farmer awake and asks, “Alright, what animal is it?”

"질문을 하나 할게요." 교수가 말했다. "당신이 대답할 수 없다면 5달러를 주세요. 그런 다음 질문을 하세요. 제가 대답할 수 없다면 500달러를 드릴게요. 어때요?" 농부는 고개를 끄덕이며 동의했다.
교수가 질문을 했다. "지구와 달의 거리는 얼마인가요?" 농부는 조용히 5달러를 꺼내어 교수님에게 건넸다.
이제 농부 차례였다. 그는 "산을 오를 때는 다리가 세 개이고 내려올 때는 다리가 네 개인 동물은 뭐죠?"라고 물었다.
교수는 막막했다. 그는 머리를 짜내고 논리적인 설명을 찾고 심지어 휴대용 콤으로 찾아보았지만 답을 찾을 수 없었다.
좌절한 그는 농부에게 500달러를 건넸다. 농부는 미소를 지으며 돈을 받고 뒤로 기대어 낮잠을 잤다.
호기심이 많고 그냥 지고 싶지 않은 교수는 농부를 흔들어 깨우고 "좋아요, 무슨 동물이에요?"라고 물었다.
농부는 조용히 5달러를 꺼내 교수에게 건네고 다시 잠이 들었다. |
